Reflect on my personal tutoring session
I have learnt a lot during this session on how I am progressing with the course. My tutor asked questions about how I was getting on with MATLAB. I answered honestly which was I am finding MATLAB a bit hard as I’ve never used it before. I am sure I’ll get there. My tutor gave me feedback that I should be getting teaching sessions on MATLAB for 11 weeks until the class group gets an understanding of it. I still don’t think I understand it yet. The session went into checking that course fees and other financial things are in place which they were.
Experiences of being Mentored
As my experience of being mentored is very limited I decided to ask if my Father and mother would help mentor me. Both of them have had experience of higher education I thought it would be helpful to be mentored by them.
At first I found it hard to understand what my mentors were trying to make me understand as I thought I knew everything. After a couple of mistakes I soon realised that they knew what they were talking about. Although neither of them know anything about Computer Aided Visualisation they now what is expected f students studying at University. I have learnt to listen to what they are saying and try to apply it to my approach to the course work.

Learning Line
As an infant I had difficulties with speech and language processing and I went to a special speech and language unit at Powers Hall School, Witham. The teachers helped me with different ways to learn and prepared me for going to Secondary School at Notley High were I also was part of a special speech and language unit. The teachers at Notley were excellent and really helped me although, even now, I still have difficulties at times. Notley High school helped me with ways to get onto the BTEC Media at Rickstone Sixth Form College. Rickstones were also excellent and helped me pass the BTEC so that I could go to Chelmsford College to do BTEC media level 3. This course took two years and I was able to use a lot of different media formats. On passing the BTEC level 3 this allowed me to explore other media areas and I decided to go on to ARU Computer aided Visualisation. As is shown in my low level of read/write style from the VARK score I can sometimes struggle with the presentation of information however I do manage to get there but it van take a little longer.
Vark Questionnaire
The aim of the questionnaire is to find my learning style preferences. Categories are Visual, Aural, Read/Write and Kinesthetic (VARK)
Here are my results:
Total number of V’s circled 2
Total number of A’s circled 6
Total number of R’s circled 2
Total number of K’s circled 3
From this analysis it appears that my preferred learning style is aural which matches how I believe I already like to learn. I was surprised by the Visual score being low as I also like to learn through visual methods also. I was not surprised with the read/write score as I find this the most difficult way of learning.
